Do you know how important reading is for children? Do you want your child to learn how to read? Do you regularly make your child practice his or her reading? Do you do this on a nightly or weekly basis?

I'm sure you do know how important reading is for children. We all know children need to learn how to read, but have you ever considered how important it is for you to read aloud to children? Yes, reading aloud is one of the most important things you can do for young children. It's something many parents neglect because they see more value in making the child read. I'm not saying that reading aloud is more important. I'm only saying that it is just as important.

Reading aloud changes childrens' brains in beneficial ways. There have been a number of studies done on this, and kids who have parents who read aloud to them consistently do better on standardized tests than children who don't have book read to them.

If you have a child, it's important to start reading early to them. They don't have to be old enough to understand or follow the story as an adult would. They can listen and gain the building blocks required for reading comprehension. As children hear words, they make mental images of those words. They visualize events in the story as they are happening. This is how reading comprehension works in both children and adults.

Reading comprehension is a part of almost every standardized test your child is going to take in school. In many grades children take these tests, and they are often the deciding factor in whether a child is admitted to the next grade. Therefore, it's vitally important that children learn to not only read but remember what they are reading.

If you want what's best for your child, you'll start reading aloud. You can find lots of book at the local library, and you can almost always check them out for free. Many parents don't realize how great a resource local libraries are. Go often, check out books, read them, and get more. A good, involved parent will take the time to read to his or her child. It's just what you're supposed to do. If the benefits of it are so great, there is really no good reason not to read daily to your children. It will help them in ways you never imagined.
